When it comes to police controls for drink & drive I’d say Sweden should get an Oscar or something likewise.Any time and for any reason, should police stop you, the first thing would be to take the “alcohol test” and I don’t mean; “walk on the straight line looking up and hands up”.
A lot of countries around the world have a tolerance, which vary, when it comes to per cent of alcohol in blood, like: 0,1, 0,3, 0,5 etc. and unfortunately in some countries controls don’t even exist. Therefore I can proudly say that Sweden is doing the right thing; no tolerance what so ever (0,000000 mg. per cent).
If you get caught and it shows that you have alcohol in your blood you will as from that moment loose your driving license (at least one year). After that comes; at least one month in jail, then you will have a regular doctor’s control (once a month / 1year) to check out your alcohol consumption which should be zero, you will attend the AA therapy and then you might get a chance to take new test for driving license, which isn’t low-priced.
Somehow, despite all these controls and after procedures, we still do have a huge problem with drink & drive. To top that, now days, there is even more common problem;” the drug abused drivers”.
I don’t get it. Especially those that once lost their driving licenses but continue to drive the same way (drunk) if not even worse. What goes through their minds? Usually nothing, I guess. Often they say; “I’ve got nothing to loose”. Probably not, but society does.
